Talking points on Solar Project

Many local residents have contacted the City regarding the possible construction of a large-scale solar project in and near New Bloomfield. The City has not been contacted directly by the developers.

From the information we have, the proposal includes constructing parts of the facility on land which is zoned for single-family residential use. Commercial use as is proposed is not allowed in the single-family district.

As mayor, I have instructed our city attorney to contact the property owners whose property is rumored to be used to remind them that this use is not allowed in the single-family district. I have also instructed our city attorney to research what options the city has to protect our citizens. The city council will be reviewing these options at our upcoming meeting, but I am not at liberty to discuss the details now.
